Historic DC Armory to Host First Esports Tournament in DC

If you’ve never watched a professional esports competition, here is your chance to witness some of the best teams in the world go head-to-head in our own backyard!

Events DC is partnering with Moonduck Studios to host Captains Draft 4.0, the first-ever esports tournament in the historic DC Armory on January 4 - 7, 2018! To purchase tickets to the event, click here. This is a unique opportunity because this tournament is the only planned Dota 2 Minor tournament in the United States that is open to the public in 2018.

Tickets won’t be sold for the first day – or “group stage” – of the tournament, but you can watch online through the MoonduckTV & DotaCinema broadcast channels. The DC Armory will then open to the public from January 5 - 7, with the Grand Finals on Sunday.

What you will see are eight teams playing Dota 2, a popular game played by millions every day. Dota 2’s main goal is for heroes (players) to destroy the enemy inside their strongholds. The tournament teams will battle it out for $300,000 in prize money and 300 points towards qualifying for the International 8, which is the annual Dota 2 esports tournament. The winning team at the 2017 tournament took home close to $11 million in prize money!

“The opportunity for us to hold a Dota 2 Minor in DC wouldn’t be possible without Events DC, and we look forward to working with them to bring even more Dota 2 events to the East Coast,” said Shannon 'SUNSfan' Scotten, a caster and content creator working at DotaCinema and MoonduckTV. Moonduck Studios can’t wait to bring Captains Draft to the big stage in January, and to give fans of Dota 2 and eSports great games, coverage, and content, with a few surprises along the way.”

This could be a fun and eye-opening experience for non-gamers and a rare opportunity for budding gamers to see their “heroes” in action! Find more event info here.
