On August 29th, Mayor Muriel Bowser helped us break ground on three multi-purpose recreational fields and kick-off a milestone in our short-term plan to reimagine the RFK Campus. It is one of five short-term plans for the campus.
“The community has waited a long time to see this land put to good use, and today, we are all proud to get this project started,” said Mayor Bowser. “When these fields are complete, this will be the community space our residents deserve. Here at RFK, Washingtonians will have it all – the amenities of a big city, access to a thriving waterfront, and fantastic outdoor fields and play space.”
The new fields will transform 27 acres of asphalt into three new state-of-the-art artificial turf fields for recreational and community use, including:
- A youth soccer field
- Two baseball/softball diamonds
- Two full soccer fields
- Two lacrosse fields
You and your family and friends can take in all the action from bleacher seating that will hold up to 300 people. There will be a picnic area and a playground. Food, beverages and restrooms with changing areas will be available at a 6,000-square-foot pavilion.
The fields will be ready by Summer 2019. We will keep you updated on the progress.
To welcome Autumn, we also want to keep you up-to date on some of the events and activities taking place on the RFK Campus this Fall.
