You’re not alone if the holiday months bring visions of leftover Halloween candy, your Thanksgiving feast, cookie-decorating parties, and Champagne toasts. Unfortunately, the stretch from late October to New Year’s Day can also leave chocolate-filled, gravy-covered, and bubbly extra weight on our bodies.
By stepping up your activity level now, you can enjoy your seasonal favorites and still stay fit. And doing that is as close as the starting line for three fun runs – all benefiting good causes – coming up at RFK Stadium.
Making Strides against Breast Cancer. Lace up to save lives in this non-competitive 5k walk/run, October 29. You’ll join a sea of pink-clad women and men, including survivors and their caregivers, who are passionate about shining a light on breast cancer and putting an end to the disease. Entertainment will energize you along the route and afterward. Come with a team, a friend, or on your own. Hot Cider Run. OK, here’s where the competition heats up a bit. Benefiting Playworks, which focuses on play as a learning opportunity at low-income schools, the November 4 Hot Cider Run is a chip-timed, staggered start race where you can pick your preferred distance: a 15K, 10K, or 5K run/walk. Waiting at the finish line? Hot cider in a souvenir mug and caramel apples. Hmm. Considering the treat at the end, maybe that longer distance isn’t such a bad idea!
